Position Purpose
The Robertson Lab at Dartmouth is hiring a Lab Manager to join us in the Psychological and Brain Sciences Department at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. This individual will support research studies and lab operations related to understanding the human brain and behavior. The successful candidate will be expected to become proficient in multiple cognitive neuroscience techniques, including neuroimaging, virtual reality, and eye-tracking. * Highly competent in several lab methods, procedures, and techniques.
* Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment.
* Highly organized, reliable, and able to manage time effectively.
* Self-motivated to learn new skills and take on new tasks.
* Strong interpersonal skills interacting with different types of people.
* Good organizational and time management skills.
* Competency in one or more of the following programming languages: MATLAB, python, shell scripting, C#, Unity.
* Communicates respectfully with a diverse community.

Key Accountabilities
Description
Research/Experiments:
* Works as a member of a collaborative group to accomplish projects in a reasonable timeframe.
* Designs and sets up laboratory experiments/tests, utilizing a range of established and novel methods, procedures, and techniques (e.g. virtual reality, functional magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, eye-tracking, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, etc.).
* Identifies, troubleshoots, and recommends solutions to problems associated with experimental design, procedures, equipment, and facilities.
* Recruits participants for research studies.
* As necessary, develops and/or implements new or modified research methods, procedures, and techniques to meet the unique requirements of assigned research problems.
* Supports and adheres to laboratory standard operating procedures, to ensure Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP), including careful documentation and strict protocol adherence.
* Suggests possible directions in which research should progress.
* Prepares and makes oral presentations of research findings and their significance in various settings, such as departmental/laboratory staff meetings, conferences, and meetings of professional societies
* Administers functional MRI tasks during scanning; transfers and properly documents electronic scan data.
* Becomes familiar with specialized fMRI task design and analysis software (e.g., Matlab; Freesurfer; Analysis of Functional Neuro Images).
* Assists in developing innovative methods for displaying virtual reality content for visual perception experiments using specialized coding languages (MATLAB, C and Unity).

Data Analysis and Coding:
* Programs and runs behavioral experiments using eye-tracking and virtual reality.
* Programs and runs brain-imaging experiments using electroencephalography (EEG), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) techniques.
* Analyzes behavioral and brain imaging experiments using statistics and computational approaches (e.g. machine learning).
* Coordinates version control of lab code.
* Leads coding tutorials for lab members.
* Processes structural MRI scans, including data transfer, preprocessing, and volumetric measurement of brain structures.
* MRI scans; scores fMRI performance data using specialized spreadsheets; assists supervisor with statistical analyses using Freesurfer, Analysis of Functional Neuro Images and related software packages.

* Maintains lab webpage.
* Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of computers, servers, and other technical equipment in the PI's lab.
* Instructs others in coding practices, laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques and provides technical guidance and direction as required.
* Manages activities of undergraduate research assistants.
* Monitors equipment and instrument performance; obtains necessary maintenance and repair.
* Advises on the need for and type of equipment purchases; locates manufacturers and suppliers.
* Maintains laboratory records or procedures.
* Assists in preparing laboratory reports and presentations.
